I LOVE house tours. It is one of my most favorite things to do. Especially the ones coated in fall colors, sights, and sounds. I can just smell the Home Sweet Home scent by Yankee Candle, can’t you?!?!?
I have been looking forward to doing this blog post for some time now. For one, I love opening my home to people. Since not everyone will make it out to my house this is the best way I can do that for you. 🙂
Secondly, one of my goals in creating this blog to share not just my life with infertility but to also share my life outside of it. It is so important to live life outside of this struggle! Living life can mean everything from big responsibilities and life’s work to the small things, like home cooked meals, fall decorations and time spent with family & friends.
This is what I do while I’m waiting {WIW}. I have fun, smile and find JOY in the small things.
So, with that said, COME ON IN and grab a cup of coffee! I’ve got the apple cobbler baking and the Home Sweet Home candle burning. Welcome to our fall farmhouse!
THE FRONT PORCH
Let’s start with one of my favorite views… from my front porch! Who doesn’t love a southern front porch???
Visions of morning coffee and reading dance in my head…
THE FIRE PIT
Moving on to the fire pit. I admit we don’t use this as much during the summertime but come fall we plan to use it! Let’s roast some weenies shall we!
LIVING ROOM
Next we move to the living room. You guys, I am a firm believer in our homes being our sanctuary away from the world. When Brooks and I come home, we want to relax. My passion for our house is for it to be our home. To be a place of refuge from the chaotic lives we lead.
For me, the easiest season for that to happen is in the fall.
I love these pillows. They are so warm and inviting! <3 them!
Virginia Tech colors…. GO HOKIES!!!!
This is my favorite chair! Zzzz….
DINING ROOM
Who doesn’t like a pretty tablescape? I think my absolute favorite thing to do in life is entertain. I absolutely love cooking a meal and feeding people. Giving my family & friends a night off from cooking. I wonder if that apple cobbler is ready yet???
MASTER BEDROOM
I think my sister has the best insight on bedding. She says that we spend about a third of our life sleeping. So, we should get the most comfortable bedding we can find. I have to agree. I switch out my bedding every season – fall, Christmas, winter, spring/early summer, late summer. It’s a fairly inexpensive way to feel like you’ve totally remodeled your sleep space. 🙂
I love signage. I’m still waiting for the day I can DIY one on old barn wood that says ‘ThorneBrook Farms’ for my office.
Everyone needs a quiet place to pray, reflect, and study. This is mine. My reclining chair that I got from my late Great Aunt Margaret, a blankie, pillow and all my study books & prayer journals.
THE FALL GARDEN
This year my husband made me a couple raised beds. I love them! My fall plantings include: cilantro, strawberries, cabbage, broccoli, kale, beets and collards. Can we say #PALEO?
A farmhouse is not a farmhouse without a pair of well used boots. I don’t think there is such a thing! You can’t have one without the other. They stick together like glue, like the Fox & the Hound, and a farmer and his dog. Molded together like me and my boo.
Well, me and the critters had fun having you over! Stop by some time to swap stories by the fire. I’m heading in to eat me some apple cobbler…
